Cafe Carousel

A lot has not happened in the eighteen months since Yellow Hare closed its doors. And while it has not been happening, one of two principal reasons for having to close in the first place has resolved itself and the other is hovering over me with permission to let go.

Ironically, the reasons for remaining closed almost all this time are primarily down to the building’s ‘sold’ status. So far two consecutive buyers have not worked out, each in their own way sending me back to the drawing board for a rethink.  I haven’t minded this too much, being preoccupied as I was with other things but, mindful of the coffee gap I’ve left at the pier, I’m anxious and ready to move forward and get things up and running again. Apart from which, Yellow Hare's inertia on Tiree is preventing progress at the Edinburgh end.

So.  Two new options.  The first is to lease the building to an appropriate person and the second is to return and re-open it myself.  The second option will happen in the absence of the first.  I am placing it in the lap of the gods.  Who saw that coming?

Previous applicants (as opposed to previous general-enquirers) need not re-apply.  Not because you are undoubtedly good at what you do, and not because you don’t have a 5-star reputation or track record, but because you’re not a good fit for this particular gig.

If you are currently off-island – or even on island – and want to know what it’s like to run a place like this, read one of our blogs such as Running A Small Business on a Small Island.

I don’t think I’m conveying quite how excited I am at the prospect of seeing the doors thrown open again.  Whoever that throw-opener may be. I’m sorry things didn’t go to plan sooner. Thus ends the shortest blog to date.
